Replete with sun-burns & tans, pictures & memories, stories, I AM BACK. To my utter disappointment, I have also come back 1/2 Kilograms heavier.  (I expected to come back sleeker, see my previous post https://theescapades.wordpress.com/2012/03/21/the-next-big-one/). And now is the time to sit back and write about my experiences. Here’s the part 1 which is dedicated to Rishikesh.

A visit to Uttarakhand in India is never complete without stopping over at Rishikesh and for some reason I never get enough of it. The beautiful town of Rishikesh is the gateway to Uttarakhand. So, we began our vacation by stopping over some 20 kms farther than Rishikesh for a night in a riverside camp and indulging in some more rafting over Ganges (you can also see my previous post on Rishikesh https://theescapades.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/flowing-with-ganges/). The boys carried their mountain bikes for some extra fun. The schedule remained nearly same as before:-

  • 7:00 AM – Left Delhi,
  • 11:00 AM – Halted over at Haldirams before Muzaffarnagar for lunch,
  • 3:00 PM – Stopped over just after crossing Rishikesh for boys to take out their bikes,
  • 4:00 PM – Reached the camp in time for evening snacks.

We will stay overnight here, take the 16 KM rafting run from Marine Drive to Shivpuri at 7:00 AM next morning and leave for Ukhimath, our next destination by noon. The following are some pictures I took:

Let the fun begin
Boys biking between Rishikesh and Ganga Beach Camp near Marine Drive
Riding his mountain bike
Rafting in Ganges at Rishikesh
Give in to the nature – just float

Note – Rishikesh is a beautiful place that can be visited any time of the year. However, if rafting and camping is on your mind visit between October and June. The rafting organizers don’t operate during monsoons when the water level rises.
